Much of the world will celebrate Good Friday today. This day focuses our attention on literally the worst things that have ever happened to any innocent human being, and yet we call it "good."
Churches across this country will retell the story of Jesus' betrayal, rejection by religion, and condemnation by the State, abandoning him to
excruciating suffering and a death so symbolic, that the cross itself remains a solemn reminder of the most influential leader in the history of the world.
Whether you attend one of these services or not, I'd like to invite you into a contemplative time of silence, stillness, and reflective prayer. These moments are missed in the hustle and bustle of our church marketplaces, amidst the noise, distraction, and pageantry. Wherever you find
yourself today, find yourself in silence before God, contemplating the fact that his death was necessary and beautiful and extends to every single soul that has ever lived...and that includes you...yes you.
On your way to church, I've picked a couple of very popular posts from past Good Fridays, and Palm Sundays, and I'm hoping you'll use them to begin a discussion with the others in your car, at your table. Or maybe they'll help you to enter
the sacred luminal space of your own silence.
Peace be with you.
