I'm truly grateful for each of you that open these each week, and find something that supports your spiritual journey. If there is anything further I can do for you, please let me know.
Psalm 138:
I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
Romans 14:
5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to
God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself...
10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.
I look at our world and I’m often troubled at how we’ve given politics such a foothold in our lives. Our country and so many families are divided that some cannot tolerate differing perspectives. While we may expect this among toddlers in a daycare group, it shouldn’t be the case with adults, and it’s unthinkable among those we claim to
love.
God’s Word points us to a higher way to live. And the irony is that the way up to this higher plane, is actually down.
- David shows us that gratitude must first “the whole heart” our inner
being (soul).
- Thanksgiving is evidenced by a bow. Humble inner posture that sees God’s unceasing love for all of us.
- Paul shows us that the goal is not uniformity of thought, nor practice, but humble recognition that each person is living
according to their own convictions, as they are able, before God.
True, humble, Thanksgiving requires both an object and a subject. Our whole-being must be thankful for (something-object) but also to (someone-subject). If we lack either aspect, we fail to bow, our posture isn’t truly grateful.
May we reflect silently on our own
inner posture and find true Thanksgiving.
