Most people think peer pressure is a young person's problem. Not so. Ask yourself this:
- Who is in my circle of influence? (ID your top 5)
- Do they care if you grow as a person?
- What have they done that inspires you toward excellence?
-
How does this friendship benefit or cost you?
Now flip that around:
- Do you care if they grow?
- What have you done to inspire them?
- What benefit or cost do you bring?
My point is simple. We are all influenced by our peers. It is an inescapable truth of life. We are always influencing.
The question then becomes: How intentional are we with our relationships?
Will we have better habits around those who are intentional or those who are apathetic?
We need to get over feeling like a flunky around those who are more advanced. How else will we learn?
If we have strength in an area, it is our responsibility to serve others who are not so.
Giving and getting are in equal proportion. If not, then our peers are unhelpful and we remain stuck along with them. Progress is dependent upon humbly learning and humbly serving.
Success is always shared. Wisely employ peer pressure.
