Where is Restoration?

Good morning !
I took this picture of a recent sunrise on the San Francisco Bay. Mornings are so full of promise.

Have you ever wondered why?

Switch gears with me. Now, take a moment to think about the worst thing you have ever done. I'm not just talking about those things where we got caught. Remember that time when we acted in the most disgraceful way. When we were surprised by our own behavior. Remember how we tried so hard to bury our shame. Sense for a moment what it would feel like if everybody knew.

All people carry with them these scars of deep shadow. Murder, deceit, hate, vengeance, lust, greed, spite, jealousy. Ugly words for our ugly acts. In fact, you may be bristling at my calling attention to this painful reality. If so, please keep reading.

While its true that time helps us to forget & gives a chance to live in a different way, time doesn't restore us.  Restoration doesn't just make us like we were before.

Restoration is positional. Restoration indexes us as better than before. Restoration means our quality is better because our essence has been qualified, but we still possess the story.

Time will only cause us to run further from our story.

Restoration means that our story is now purposeful.

Religion doesn't offer restoration. Instead it fuels our guilt and makes us dutiful prisoners.

Distraction and ambition don't offer restoration. It morphs pain into activity and noise, until we die.

Restoration presupposes right standing with our Maker. Once we make peace, then we have no accusers. Humility is the only delivery system. Gratitude is the evidence of the transaction.

Mornings are a gift that reminds us that our story is still being told.
