Creativity: The Divine Impulse
Children are immensely creative. As I watch my kids play, I notice that play itself is one creative expression after another. Art, construction, assembly, music, writing. It never ends.
And then they get really inspired and want to do a big project. Something where they need a 'Grown-Up's" help.
That's where it starts to go wrong. The wise parent begins to talk the child out of the big project.
It's too involved, to complicated, too something. At this moment, a parent is most unlike God.
Like a brain tattoo, these messages remain with us into adulthood and continue to shoot down ideas that are bubbling out of our deepest and truest self.
We kill or choke off one of the most satisfying impulses we can experience. It is our opportunity to express something magnificent in its purest form.
If you have
got into the habit of quieting this impulse can I implore you: please do not do this!
Give vent to creativity. It's not just you that you are feeling. You are touching the same force behind all that exists. Let your ideas germinate in the marinade of trial & error.
It is so much better to have a mess of failed attempts where you developed the muscle to listen to this voice of inspiration, than to have a clean
workspace where you ignore this voice.
Your contribution in creativity is desperately needed in this world. Without it, we become less. With it, we all gain a new portal through which to view things beautiful and transcendent.
Express yourself this week.
