Happy Monday .
I've become increasingly conscious of a pattern in life. I've learned something from it and I want to share it with you.
People are always trying to help us get the most joy out of life. Guru's all have a prescription on how we can all obtain more joy. I think it's much easier than that. We need only keep the joy we have and not trade it for something
less.
It all begins with those things in life that we truly enjoy. (Ex: our family, our faith, our sports, our hobbies, our passions.)
Then because we enjoy such things we all "go deeper" into it with the anticipation of greater enjoyment. And it does deliver more joy-for a while.
Regardless of our area of interest, there is always an institution or organization that determines whether we have
reached our maximum potential.
- In sports, it's those who determine champions.
- In faith, it's those who determine whose faithful.
- In music, it's those who determine record contracts.
- In business, it's those who determine success.
It's here where we make a crucial exchange.
We trade our present joy for the promise of a future joy.
We stop experiencing, for the sake of some
other experience.
Bureaucracy replaces joy.
Religion replaces faith.
Routine replaces love.
What I've learned is that the promise of a future joy actually has no meaning if we cannot possess the joy we have right now. If we miss
this we will ruin everything you enjoy.
Is the prize really the winning event? Are we really to sacrifice the daily joy of our passion for the fleeting moment at the top?
- What good is the future win if we don't love being on the field?
- What good is a future faith if there is no joy in the one we have today?
- Who says we will obtain heaven one day if we cannot celebrate it here
today?
Yes, pursue excellence and mastery in all you do, just never make the exchange. Let's not let the celebration of a thing leave our possession, because it's a fools errand to try and find it somewhere else.
This is what it means to be true.
To be
real.
To be free.
