 Your "Definitive" Story
"Recounting of a life story, a mind thinking aloud leads one inevitably to the consideration of problems which are no longer psychological but spiritual." Paul Tournier
de-fin-i-tive
: not able to be argued about or changed
: final and settled
: complete, accurate and considered to be the best of its kind
All we have is our story. Each of us is placed within a specific context of time and space and given a particular set of circumstances and experiences. We call this "Our Life." It is our lot.

Not all people gain the awareness that our lives can be changed for the better. If this occurs, then we have already been drawn into the existential question. This is holistically a spiritual birth.

Why am I here? Do I have any real purpose? What is my significance? Where do I find meaning? How did I come to exist? What is my trajectory? What is the point of all this?

Real questions about life are always spiritual questions. They address the process of ripening, of reaching our full potential, of transcending. These questions presuppose satisfaction, and our journey toward our definitive self begins. They all point to "MORE".

Of course our world is full of answers-some better than others. The value of the answer is based on our proximity to the question.
  • Hedonism works for those not too concerned with such things.
  • Fundamentalism works for those overly concerned with such things.
In between such contemplations we have laundry, dishes, and jobs. For those in close proximity to the existential question (spiritual awareness), all life activities have meaning, beauty, and purpose. While those living in distant proximity see ordinary life as distracting, burdensome, or meaningless.

Yet most of us find ourselves in the middle and the monotony of life is constantly reminding us of what "could be." The middle may not be such a bad place. "More" beckons us.

King Solomon of ancient Israel is credited with being the wisest person who ever lived. This is what he said about this issue:

"Be not overly righteous and make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself? Be not overly wicked, neither be a fool. Why should you die before your time. It is good that you should take hold of this and from that withhold not your hand, for the one who fears God shall come out of both of them." ~Ecclesiastes 7:14-18

Wisdom is balance. When it comes to spiritual things, neither under do it, nor over do it. Yin and Yang. Light and Dark. Humanity and Spirit.

Finding and living your definitive self will not come easy. Awareness of our definitive/spiritual self always uncovers our false self, our ego projects, and our shadows.

The authentic life is simply not possible without spiritual awakening and awareness. Each of us must pass through this turnstile on our journey upward. At first it feels constricted but then it leads to life and freedom.

If we minimize this spiritual pursuit, our reality will diminish into the next temporary thing.

To test yourself, begin looking at the motivations in your heart. What are your deepest yearnings?

The way we resolve these tensions creates our life story; our trajectory.

Have a great week.

Bikes and Souls
Surfing is always credited with being a sport that is equally about the spiritual experience of being immersed in power, flow and freedom.  I believe many sports have this capacity, and biking is certainly one of them.
"I help people who want to understand spirituality to make sense of their religious experience, so they can clearly see God in the world."
