Thought of the Week: October 29

Published: Mon, 10/29/12

"Tomorrow is the day when idlers work, and fools reform." ~Edward Young

, do you have a busy week ahead? Me too. Does it seem like the majority of your life is consumed with "Have-to's" and not "Get-to's?" Me too.

Whether a person is gathering water or finding food in a 3rd world country, or driving growth in business in a modern culture, all people are required to spend the vast majority of their day in efforts to just sustain and perpetuate their daily existence.

But deep in our hearts there is a cry for freedom. A hope for a better day, a dream or passion that we long to see come into fruition. The problem is, we don't have time  to give to that today--or do we?

I'd like to suggest that each day, no matter how busy, no matter how full, has the necessary time to advance our deepest passions or pursue our biggest dreams. What's that? You say you don't have time?

~How much TV will you watch this week?-be honest.
~What time do you get up?
~Is it feasible that you could get up 30 minutes or 1 hour earlier?
~How are you using your drive time or commute?

We do have the time, but it will require that we listen to a new voice. Not the voice that got us to the places we are stuck, but the voice that stands up to our inner skeptic, the voice that calls us out on our lack of discipline. That's the voice that changes the world, from the inside out.

Pay attention, and Have a great week!

Kids are amazing! My son and daughter will engage in an endeavor or project with their sole focus on the dreamiest outcome. Recently they were determined to make their own Halloween decorations to frighten everyone who would walk by our house.

Along the way they encountered obstacles...

Can a 90 foot wave be ridden? Can yours?
CRAZY. IDIOTIC. SUCIDE.--just a few terms for those who take on the challenge of big wave surfing.  I love surfing as a metaphor for life. It takes training, preparation, skill, over a very long period of time in order to get to just the right place where just the right wave comes. And so it is with your life and work. Looking forward to the new surfing movie too..

This is how the Presidential debate appears to most people...
Mad TV did this hilarious parody of a political debate. I think they were spot on. You decide.

The Church: WTF?
More than 80% of Americans claim to believe in a God, yet only 8% have any clue what the Bible actually says. I think this is why the cultural church has gone so far off course. Join Russ and I as we discuss what we think is happening between the cultural church and our city...
