"Man is a credulous animal, and must believe something; in the absence of good grounds for belief, he will be satisfied with bad ones."  ~Bertrand Russell

Good morning ! -- I've been traveling for the last couple of weeks in California and then in Aspen. As I go about, I'm always meeting new people and learning about the diverse lives we all live.  I've been focusing on this idea of belief for a long time and the vivid ways it is displayed in our every day lives.  While I'm not focusing exclusively on religious belief, i'm not excluding it either...
The Best Year Possible
Now is a great time to catch up on this series. Invest a few minutes in yourself and glean a few nuggets that will inspire you and give you practical tools to help you extract the most out of your life this year.
Scientology Super Bowl Ad
Since we are talking about belief today, how many watched this spot that cost $8 million dollars? How does this commercial strike you? I'm willing to be that if you are not a Scientologist, that it probably doesn't make you want to sign up to be one. You may even be a little bit threatened, annoyed, or subtly jealous. Every wonder why? I think its because most of us have settled on what we believe to be true, and if our truth happened to exclude scientology, then the commercial highlights our sectarian beliefs. While I'm not a Scientologist, I'm willing to bet there is more agreement that disagreement with how we should live our lives. Isn't it plausible that those areas of agreement stem from the existence of universal truth? Isn't it also plausible that those areas of disagreement stem from areas where progress still needs to be seen? For instance, I've always held that truth is external and objective and not internal and subjective as this ad presupposes. It seems irrational that if my truth and your truth are different that they are nonetheless equally true. So how would we go about testing this?  Does your truth system have the bandwidth to test it? If you have never seen our 3 minute info video for Getting Better LLC, I want to encourage you to view it and compare the perspectives to the Super Bowl ad above. I'd love to hear from you about the pro's and con's of each. Also, if any of you have $16M, I'll be happy to play it next year at the Super Bowl. :)
